Dr. Normandeau’s university studies and career path

With more than 20 years of professionnal experience as a veterinarian, Dr Caroline Normandeau is still passionate about her job. From 1996 to 2003, she worked as a veterinarian at the Baker Animal Hospital of Montreal. Then, in 2005, she integrated the ranks of l’Hôpital vétérinaire de la Seigneurie de Terrebonne until 2017.

As for her academic background, after a short course in physiotherapy from 1990 to 1991, she starts in veterinary medicine at l’Université de Montréal and graduates with a degree in veterinary medicine (DMV) in 1995. Afterwards, she carries on with her studies and obtains an internship certificate in development in veterinary applied science (IPSAV), medicine and surgery for small animals at l’Université de Montréal.

Dr Normandeau added a few strings to her bow : in the summer of 1993, she began a four week internship in veterinary medicine for small animals at l’Université Alfort in Paris. In the winter of 1996, she worked as a veterinarian during the Labrador 400 event, which consisted in a dog sled race of 400 km and was held in Labrador City. Also, she received basic training in ultrasound for small animals, Basic Abdominal, at Universal Imaging in New York, in the spring of 2000. Finally, she regularly attends many conferences offered by the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC).

Dr Normandeau is Charlotte and Émile’s  mother. She is also Nelly (a Portuguese Water Dog) and Jasmine’s (a Birman cat) owner.

As for her hobbies, Dr Caroline Normandeau likes to read. She also likes to travel, she went with her backpack to discover Europe, following her internship in France, in 1993. She keeps herself in good shape by bicycling, roller blading, alpine skiing and going on long walks with Nelly.

Her sense of observation and her capacity in analysis and synthesis help her to accurately evaluate and solve their health problems or behavior. In addition, she likes to work with the public. Her interpersonal skills and her sense to teach and inform facilitate her contact with the clients. She demonstrates autonomy in her work, and she also has great skills in team work. Finally, her scientific curiosity and her wish to constantly improve herself allow her to keep herself updated in the new developments in veterinary medicine.
