Here are some tips for your cat.
Tip no. 1 : From the moment you adopt, think of vaccinating your cat
From the very beginning, cats are particularly exposed to all kinds of virus and infections. As of his/her first weeks of existence, do not hesitate to vaccinate. The types of vaccine given will depend on your cat’s life style, whether he lives mostly indoors or outdoors.
Tip no. 2 : Give him healthy food
A good nutrition, healthy and well-balanced, will prolong your cat’s life and help with your kitten’s growth. Kittens should be given hard bits or cans especially adapted to their growth. The adult cat should be given hard bits or cans from a well-known brand that are in most cases, especially made to avoid urinary or dental issues.
Tip no. 3 : Know your cat’s personality
Cats are by nature independent and autonomous. There is a wide variety of characters in cats. Some will be by nature cuddly, others will be lazy or very dynamic. It is therefore a good idea to find out as quickly as possible the type of temperament your cat has, in order to establish a healthy and enriching relationship.
Tip no. 4 : Never forget to feed him
If there is a domain to which the cat is attached to, it is food. If the cat is by nature a hunter who likes to track down birds and mice, he needs to particularly find his food bowl full and he will hold it against you if you forget.
Tip no. 5 : Do not be sparing in petting
More than any other animal, the cat loves to be caressed. This practice will give him an important sense of well-being which will bring on a long series of purring. Do not therefore hesitate one minute to give him that pleasure, which will help create a bond between you and your cat.
Tip no. 6 : Take care of his hygiene
It is clear that a cat is naturally cleaner than a dog, as long as he cleans himself. Look after your cat particularly if he/she has long fur. Certain breeds need to be brushed nearly every day.
Tip no. 7 : Respect his territory
A cat should not be considered like a member of your family or like a child. In that sense, you must reserve a special area which will be his very own and in which he will feel at peace, where he will be able to sleep, play and above all, enjoy the calmness.
Tip no. 8 : Impose him/her some rules
Even if a cat is educated differently than a dog, you must not think that all training is impossible. As of a very young age, you must instil what is tolerated and what is forbidden. You must institute the rule of conduct to which he/she must conform to.
Tip no. 9 : Do not leave him/her alone for too long
Even if the cat is a very independent animal, it is strongly inadvisable to leave him alone for a few days. In case of prolonged trips, you must not hesitate to entrust him to someone you trust which will permit him to not only have food, but to also not be totally isolated.
Tip no. 10 : Be aware of the ageing of your cat
Just like any human creature, a cat grows old. The life span of a cat differs according to the breed. A cat can generally live up to an average of fifteen years. Old age shows its effects generally by a progressive slowing down of his physical activities and by a decrease in appetite.
